Small town, population 700 (estimated)
History
Edgewater was founded in 722, three hundred years ago. The fishing was very good along the shore of
the lake and the area boasted good farm land.
The farm land is rather hilly and rocky, but once cleared, the soil
proved very good. Arvin Free built a
home along the shore and soon a small village occupied the spot.
Edgewater prospered and grew when a valuable vein of iron
was discovered in the nearby hills. That
composes the economy of Edgewater to this day – fishing, mining and some
farming. Edgewater has never been able
to grow enough food to feed all of the residents but has always been able to
trade.
Life has been peaceful generally. There was a major goblin incursion in
857. A contingent of troops from West
was stationed in the town briefly and a minor battle was fought along the
shores of the lake. Since then, goblin
raids have occurred but not with any frequency to cause alarm.

Prominent Citizens
Paul Olmea, the town jeweler, is the head of the
family. His family controls the mine as
well as a large farm outside of town.
Paul is married to Pamela, who runs the farm. Justin is Paul’s younger brother. The Olmea family has been in the area for
many years and many people wonder why they are not the noble family of the area. For whatever reason, they have never been
given to reins of power.
James Wilcok owns and manages the most successful farm in
the town. His brother is a fisherman and
the two men seem to hate each other. The
Wilcok family have been in the area nearly as long as the Olmea family.
Michael and Marsha Small run the outfitter store and a
lumber business. Marsha is the brains of
the operation apparently, as well as the beauty. Michael is frequently in the woods looking
for timber and/or bringing logs into town.
The Small family once held title to the lands of Edgewater, but lost
title to the Prince several generations ago.
Alphonse Beek, local historian and naturalist. Alphonse is a very ugly man but seems to know
quite a bit about the surrounding lands and what plants and creatures live in
these parts. He seems to be friendly if
people get past his facial deformities.
Shane and Gonzale Beck are young and ambitious. Gonzale runs a barge between Edgewater and
West. Shane runs on the inns in
town. The Beck family is here because
Edgewater is rather remote and there are rumors that a guild of thieves is
looking for Shane. Apparently Shane came
into some money (family inheritance?) and this allows the family to start the
two businesses.
Priest of Geshtai (lakes), James Hammin. He takes care of the Geshtai shrine and the
other shrines in town (Beory and Xerbo mainly although most major deities have
at least a small shrine). James is the
town priest and is well liked by the townspeople.
Priest of Bleredd (hills, mines), Buck Tall. Buck is active in the mine and the shrine to Bleredd
is located there. Many miners pay homage
to Bleredd.
Chamberlain Robert (?) seems like a toady type of
person. He seems to be trying very hard
to please. He is very organized.
Treasurer Lora is a very serious older woman. She has kept the books for the Count for many
years and her father and grand-father before her.
Guard Captain William is competent but not very skilled
(Fighter 2). He immediately offers to
resign as he was not killed when the Ogres took the past Count.
